RoamStats (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the RoamStats mobile application and website at roamstats.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated through your use of the app:
- Account information: name, username, email address, password (stored securely hashed), profile photo, cover image, bio, and optional profile details.
- Travel & social content: posts, stories, comments, reactions, favorites, travel goals, visited countries, trip plans, and portfolio data you choose to add.
- Location information: place names attached to posts, map coordinates when you search destinations, and GPS coordinates when you request country visit verification.
- Media you upload: photos, videos, audio, and documents attached to posts or stories.
- Device & usage data: push notification tokens (for alerts), app activity needed to operate the service, and technical logs for security and troubleshooting.
- Sign-in providers: if you use Google or Apple Sign-In, we receive profile information permitted by those providers (such as name and email).
2. How we use your information
We use collected information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Display your profile, feed, travel portfolio, stories, and social interactions.
- Enable location search, visit verification, trip planning, and map features.
- Send transactional emails such as welcome messages and password reset links.
- Deliver push notifications you have enabled (for example follows, comments, or reactions).
- Protect the platform, detect abuse, VPN/proxy misuse for verification, and enforce our terms.
- Improve reliability, fix bugs, and develop new features.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in these cases:
- Other users: content you publish (posts, profile details, portfolio information) is visible according to the app’s social features.
- Service providers: trusted vendors that help us run RoamStats, such as cloud hosting (AWS), email delivery (Amazon SES), maps/places (Google), and push notifications (Firebase).
- Legal requirements: when required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with appropriate notice where required.
4. Data retention
We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Stories expire after 24 hours unless saved to highlights. You may delete your account from the app; when you do, we remove your account and associated app data from our systems, subject to limited retention required for security, backups, or legal obligations.
5. Your choices & rights
- Update profile information from Edit Profile in the app.
- Control notification preferences in app settings.
- Delete your account from Settings → Delete Account.
- Request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us at support@roamstats.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable laws. We will respond to verified requests in line with those laws.
6. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and secure password storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s privacy
RoamStats is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
8. International users
RoamStats is operated from the United Kingdom and may process data on servers located in other countries. By using the service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions with different data protection laws.
9. Third-party links & services
The app may link to third-party websites or services (for example shared links in posts). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. Review their policies before providing personal information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of RoamStats after changes means you accept the updated policy.
